You should expect a raised texture finish. A clear coat of wax or oiling is recommend but may change the color of the top. It is recommended that you test the underside for how the wood will take your specific product of choice

Wood items do crack and cracking is a natural aging process commonly found in European inspired objects. Cracks, especially in large pieces of wood should not be considered defects. We strive to keep wood movement to a minimum, but many times it is beyond our control.
